WHO WE ARE

Who We Are

Vision

Twelve Gates Foundation holds that enduring peace is possible. Harmony among people and with nature becomes possible from the experience of life as sacred, and manifests in thriving cultures and societies.

Mission

Twelve Gates Foundation generates resources, provides consultation and support, and strengthens leaders, people, and communities to live harmoniously in an interfaith world.

Philosophy

Every human being carries an inner pull toward a world where love and good abound for all. The path to this desired end is not the domain of any particular religion. It is the domain of God. For “non-believers” it is a place of lasting peace and contentment.

Christian scriptures have this poetic metaphor for God’s domain:

He carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates,

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the streets of the city were pure gold, like transparent glass.

There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west.

God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning, or crying, or pain.

Revelation 21

For the Twelve Gates Foundation, three gates facing each of the four cardinal directions of the compass represent all paths to Heaven on Earth. Each person’s path to oneness with God necessarily is influenced by religious and cultural roots and experience. Our work inside our own faith path is our own responsibility. No two people have completely identical beliefs, and no religion, group or person can fulfill what we ourselves must do.

The vision of a peaceful world under Divine love is achieved by people growing in personal maturity, led by inner hope and the radiance of personal faith. As we mature, we become increasingly able to overcome differences of belief and opinion, and live in harmony with others.

However, each religion has its own unique and distinct theologies and doctrines. They cannot be blended into a single faith. Interfaith efforts and activities should not pursue a misguided and unattainable goal of religious union. Instead, interfaith efforts and programs should help people of different faiths live in harmony with one another.

This core objective of the Twelve Gates Foundation informs all its activities.

Logo

The green circle represents the world, animated in its delicate chevrons by movement, growth, change, and energy arising from giving and receiving. The twelve rays of light represent the way for all people to enter our shared, heavenly destiny of peace and abundance, Heaven on Earth. The white heart of the logo is the ineffable Divine, the center of love, the ultimate object of all human yearning.

History

Twelve Gates Foundation continues and extends Sun Myung Moon’s decades-long investment and success in interfaith dialogue, reconciliation, and collaboration that flourished most fully in the work of Inter Religious Federation for World Peace (IRFWP).
